  • Attended this church while in Knoxville visiting my sister for the Easter holiday. I was very impressed! The pastor was great! The music was amazing!! Wish I lived in Knoxville!

  • Volunteers were friendly from the moment we got out of our car. Great smiles, welcoming atmosphere. Excellent, thought-provoking message, sound quality (a thing for me actually) very professional. Lighting was used well and in moderation; I.e was not crazy rock show strobes, etc. But most of all, it was a relevant, well presented aspect of the gospel that led to a call to worship, serve, and follow Christ. Just the right size too (maybe 150 -200ish?)

I have tried OneLife Church three times - twice about a year or so ago (Halls campus) and just last Sunday (Powell campus). My first impression at both campuses was how nice everyone was and how they have so many volunteers! They asked if it was our first time, led us to the children's area and actually checked our kids in for us, and were very friendly.

All three times, my kids were pretty lukewarm about the children's service. My 10-year-old son said they were too strict and that they threatened (his word) to take away the geode they were given if they didn't remain seated until called when their parents came. That was disappointing. Also, neither of them really "got" the message, which was also disappointing. They knew it was about honor but couldn't elaborate beyond that (and usually they teach me something new after a children's service)!

At the Halls campus, I remember thinking it was just too dark and too loud for me, music-wise. I found the Powell campus to be the same. I felt slightly sick from the loud bass and disoriented with it being so dark. I am at church, not a rock concert. The words for the songs were put at the bottom of the screen, so I could not read them due to tall people in front of me. Therefore, I couldn't really worship during the music time and felt disconnected. Additionally, I did not think that the music was really moving.

The pastor gave a nice sermon, although I found it very similar to what I heard over a year ago about wanting to reach out to all of the unchurched people. I didn't care that he said more than once he doesn't care about the churched people, because isn't a church supposed to be like a family? I got a decent feeling overall from the pastor but again wasn't spiritually moved like I would like when hearing a sermon. Additionally, it felt disconnecting when he would address Halls from Powell and watching him on a screen in Halls. I felt like he was advertising, not preaching.

I won't return to this church again. As I said, everyone was very friendly and I loved that, but I didn't feel very spiritual there and with my kids not feeling that either, I can't see returning.

I visited this church several months ago and left in complete shock and pain. It was my first time visiting and my now toddler was still nursing. Out of respect, I brought a nursing cover. I stepped out in the lobby just as the service was beginning to calm him down and let him nurse so he would fall back to sleep. Once he did finally fall back asleep in my arms, I attempted to reenter the sanctuary to hear the sermon. I was told I was not allowed to go back in since I had stepped out because I was interrupting the pastor. I just couldn't and still cannot believe what was happening to me. I was in great need of fellowship in my life and searching for a home church and that day I felt like I was being treated as a burden, hassle and interruption. People were generally kind when the service finally let out (I had to sit in the lobby and watch the sermon on a TV). But, needless to say, I have no intention of stepping foot back into this place. I thought the foundational truth of Christianity was love, not how the church or pastor looks during the service.
